SMILe

SMILe is an abbreviation for Small Lenticular Lenticle Extraction and is a Bladeless and Non-Flap Procedure. SMILe is suitable for patients with thinner corneas also. The key benefit of SMILe surgery is for the patients who suffer with Dry Eyes and patients for whom contact lenses are incompatible.

How it is performed
SMILe lasik is a non-flap surgery.

Using the laser pulse very tiny bubbles are created on corneal centre in the middle layers of cornea directly to create an outline for the tissue to be removed (Ablated tissue after reshaping the cornea)

A small tiny 4 mm incision is made on the side of cornea to extract the layer which is separated using the laser pulse (Lenticule)

The cornea is now reshaped as per planned visual correction.

Limitations
SMILe is not a suitable procedure for Presbyopia Refractive Error ( Near vision correction )

Why SMILe
