Implantable Collamer Lens

Implantable Collamer (Contact) Lens is a tiny lens, that is surgically inserted in eye. ICL corrects the vision exactly the same way how the contact lenses work.

How ICL is performed
Pre operatively during consultation, the refractive error is measured properly and the same refractive power ICL is ordered to make exactly to suit you.

During the surgery, using anaesthetic drops the surgeon will make a small incision on cornea, later the tiny ICL is inserted and tucked behind the Iris.

The small incision which is made on cornea is left without any sutures, and the surgery is considered completed

Generally, when ICL is performed for both eyes, the surgery is completed on 2 different days.

Why ICL

  • If you are above 18 years and below 40 years and not a candidate for any type of LASIK due to any of
    the following reasons
  • Thin Cornea
  • High Myopia (Sph > 8 :00 D) and severe astigmatism (Cyl > 4:00 D)
  • Borderline Keratoconus
  • ICL is the best option for a glassfreelife.

Suitable for

For people between 18 to 40 Years and only for Distant vision correction

Refractive Errors Correction

Corrects Distance Vision including astigmatism up to -11:00 D Sph & -4:00 Cyl

Advantages

High Quality Vision : As ICL can be manufactured to high level of optical quality it produces crisp and clear vision
Biocompatibility : ICL is made of Collagen Copolymer material which is not recognised as a foreign object by body s immune system
Comfort : Patients cannot feel ICL inside the Eye
Invisibility : ICL is totally invisible
Removability : Though designed for remining in eye forever, ICL can be removed anytime and replaced for any deemed reason

Duration of the procedure

10- 15 minutes

Recovery

1 Day

Before Surgery

Primary Consultation for vision check-up, Dry eyes assessment and Retina Health A measuring test called White to White Diameter on the eye Basic Laboratory tests – Viral Screening and Blood Sugar for Diabetics

After Surgery

Post operative medications will be prescribed Second Eye Procedure is scheduled 1 day apart generally Recommended post-surgery visits are generally on day 1: 3 & after a week

Resuming work

The 2 nd day from procedure, work can be resumed

Note Regarding IOP (Intra Ocular Pressure)

Intra Ocular Pressure is one key parameter which is kept on a close watch for all the patients undergoing ICL Before the surgery, a tiny hole is generally made on iris to make the fluid which is in the eye to flow freely across. This procedure is called Peripheral Iridotomy. It’s a procedure done in OPD consultation room Even after the surgery, IOP or Intra Ocular Pressure is monitored closely to keep in under recommended levels

FAQs

No ICL is not visible to others and also you even if they look closely

No, ICL can correct only Distance Vision. For near vision a monovision lasik or RLE are the only
choices

Yes, as ICL is placed inside the eye without touching the surface of cornea, ICL is a good choice for
patients with Dry Eyes

ICLs are available in power range of Spherical powers up to -21:00 D and Cylindrical -4:00 D

No, ICLs are manufactured with holes in them to make the natural fluid of the eye to flow freely
and regular Annual or Bi annual check up after surgery will keep the pressures in normal range.

No, the latest ICL s which are very advanced come with a central hole in them. When we use ICLs
with holes in them for free fluid movement, peripheral iridotomy is not mandatory prior to the
surgery

Yes, it is possible to undergo ICL in both eyes on same day, however we recommend to have a day
apart for each eye surgery
