Flap Lasik Using Microkeratome
Flap Lasik using microkeratome (A very tiny blade used to create a corneal flap) is the most widely performed Lasik even today
A tiny blade called microkeratome is used to create a flap on the cornea cutting the surface layer almost around the circumference except for a tiny portion letting it to act like a fulcrum while lifting the rest of flap.
Microkeratome / Blade Lasik can be performed using either of the most advanced treatment plans namely Wavefront Guided Customised Treatment plan or Topoguided / Contoura treatment plan.
Subsequent to the laser procedure, the flap is repositioned back and procedure is completed
Decision to go with wavefront guided customised lasik or Topoguided Contoura lasik treatment plan will be based on corneal topography study and also individual choice of candidate.
Why Flap Lasik
- High Precision outcomes
- Most widely available and time-tested procedure
- Faster recovery (1 day)
- No colour halos or starburst when performed using wavefront guided or Contoura treatment

FAQs
Is Blade Lasik painful
No, Flap Lasik using blade technique is completely painless procedure. We give eye drops prior to
the procedure to induce numbness and the procedure is completed just in 5 to 10 mins in both
eyes
Can I undergo for Blade Lasiks if I have Dry Eyes
Mild Dry eyes are common and if you are using contact lenses it is even more common. If you
have mild dry eyes, we generally perform blade lasik without any problem. However, if the
severity is moderate to high, we do not recommend Flap Lasik either using a blade or all laser
lasik. We generally consider other types of Refractive Surgery in case of moderate to severe cases
Will I be eligible for Blade Lasik if I have thin cornea
If the cornea is too thin and your refractive error is high, the answer is no. But if you have mild
myopia or hyperopia and cornea is regular, we can perform Flap lasik, however unless we do the
thickness study, we cannot be sure about it
Can I go for Blade Lasik if I have Keratoconus
Generally, no, PRK is a preferred choice for candidates with Keratoconus after or along with a
corneal stabilization procedure called C3R. Non- laser refractive surgeries viz ICL and RLE are
better options
Can I go for Blade Lasik for near vision correction
Yes, near vision up to +4.00 can be corrected using Blade Lasik/ Flap Lasik
Which Lasik is better among Flap Lasiks Blade Lasik or All Laser (Femto Lasik)
Both are equally good, but All laser Lasik (Femto Lasik) is often more recommended as the flap
creation is uniform.
